Diarrhea in cats may be caused by ingestion of poisons, a sudden change in diet or a stressful event/environmental change. Other common causes of diarrhea can be something more serious such as infections from viruses or worms, drugs, and underlying medical problems.

Symptoms

Steps
1   If your cat is lethargic, sleepy, or weak rub a sugar solution like Karo syrup or honey on her gums and get to the vet immediately.
2   Make sure to provide plenty of water so that your cat does not get dehydrated
3   You can also provide a 50/50 combination of water and Pedialyte or Gatorade in your cat’s bowl
4   See a vet as soon as possible as they can succumb to dehydration very quickly.
Warnings
Diarrhea causes dehydration due to the excretion of large amounts of fluids so make sure to keep your cat hydrated
For a kitten 6 months or younger seek a vet immediately
Never fast your cat because it has diarrhea. (If fasted, they could develop a life threatening condition called hepatic lipidosis “fatty liver.”)
DO NOT give any human medication such as Pepto-Bismol as it can be dangerous to cats
Tips
Take your cat to the vet if she shows black tarlike stool, extremely foul smelling stool, blood in stool, diarrhea and vomiting, fever, loss of appetite, lethargy
