Eye infections in cats can be caused by bacteria, viruses, trauma to the eye, foreign bodies, tumors, and underlying medical problems. Eye injuries and infections should be treated by a vet promptly to ensure preservation of sight.

Symptoms

Steps
1   Hold your cat stead by wrapping her in a pillowcase so that only her head is exposed
2   You will need to wash off any eye discharge by holding a warm damp washcloth to loosen any crust
3   After softening it you can wipe it off easily with a cotton ball.
4   Flush out the eyes with sterile saline contact lens solution by holding her eye open with your thumb and forefinger and gently squirt the solution to flush the eye
5   Call your vet the same day and get any additional advice
Warnings
Never hold the cat around her neck as that can cause her to choke
Tips
You may have to wash off any eye discharge several times to clean away all of it
Flushing the eye with saline solution will wash away debris and ease any pain
