Fever (an increase in core body temperature) in pets can be the body’s response to anxiety, heat stress, shock, infectious diseases, drugs, poisons, and serious underlying medical problems. Therefore, it is important to have your pet checked right away if you suspect he or she is running a fever. Normal body temperature for cats is 100.5-102.5℉ (38.1-39.2℃). Your pet’s body temperature is measured by taking a rectal temperature. A digital thermometer is easiest, but a glass one will work as well.

Symptoms

Steps
1   Take her temperature rectally by having someone first restrain the cat
2   Next get a bulb thermometer and shake it.
3   Lubricate the end of the thermometer with a water based lubricating jelly such as KY Jelly and gently insert the thermometer into the rectum approximately 1 inch (2.5 cm) and hold for 2 min or until you heart a beep if using an electronic thermometer.
4   If there are feces present on the thermometer, wipe it away in order to read the temperature.
5   If the temperature is over 107 F mix 50/50 rubbing alcohol and water in a spray bottle and spray or dab the solution in her armpits, groin, insides of ear flaps, and pads of feet to cool her while transporting her to the vet
Warnings
If the temperature is above 105 F get her to the vet immediately
Tips
Make sure to clean the thermometer with alcohol to avoid spreading disease
Normal cat body temperatures range between 100 F and 103.1 F
If your pet is running a high fever, apply cold compresses to your cat’s chest and abdomen and seek veterinary attention
