Hives are the response to a severe allergic reaction from an insect sting or direct contact with an allergen such as certain garden & woodsy plants. Hives are usually seen within 30-45 minutes of exposure or contact with allergen.

Symptoms

Steps
1   To reduce the allergic reaction give an average-sized cat (e.g., 10 pounds) 2 mg of Benadryl® every 12 hours.
2   Soothe the affected area with a wound cleansing wipe and iodine diluted with water (3 parts water and 1 part iodine.
3   You may dab a cooled steeped tea bag of green or black tea on the itchiest parts
4   If your cat doesn't like the water you can use a cold compress wrapped in a cloth and apply it to itchy areas of your cat
5   Hives should go away after 12-24 hours of giving Benadryl but some pets it may take up to 3 days
6   If your cat has problems after 24 hours consult a vet
Warnings
DO NOT use a warm or hot water soak
Make sure to place a cloth under the coldpack before applying it to the skin
DO NOT give Benadryl more than 3 times a day
Tips
If the water does not cover the itchy spots you may pour cold water with a pitcher over her fur
Adding Aveeno to the bathwater helps with itchy skin
Use cold compresses or soaks for 10-30 min at a time a few times a day for 2-3 days
