Paint On Fur

Since pets are playful and curious creatures they are likely to get into things that they shouldn't. During home renovations, curious pets can sometimes find themselves getting into paint.

Symptoms

Steps
1   If it is an oil based paint remove it by putting a small amount of turpentine on a rag
2   Hold the rag against the paint to soften it and remove it
3   After the paint comes off immediately wash the turpentine with soap and water
4   Another way to remove the oil based paint is by using vegetable oil by rubbing large amounts of oil on the paint and blot it with paper towels, repeat this several times
5   Rub some flour or starch into the fur to absorb the oil
6   Use a wide-toothed comb to remove everything and then use diluted dish liquid soap like Dawn or Joy and rinse thoroughly to remove the powder and oil
7   For latex or wax paint apply ice directly to the paint to make it brittle and then peel the paint off with a comb or your fingers
8   Wash the rest out with soap and water
Warnings
Make sure that your cat does not try to lick the turpentine, make sure it's all washed off
Tips
Flour and vegetable oil is another way to remove oil based paint however it takes longer to remove the paint
If there is a lot of paint on your cat then apply Crisco to the contamination areas and then lather your cat with Dawn and let it soak for 5-10 min, then rinse off, you may need to repeat this a few times
You may also remove paint-encrusted fur with electric clippers
