Injury can occur to this sensitive area from a fall, bite, or a scratch. It is more common when your pet gets groomed as they can get accidentally nicked with electric clippers. It is usually very painful for your pet as your pet won't want to walk or sit or may seek out cool surfaces. First aid may be all that is needed for relief but if the pain and swelling get worse you will have to consult a vet.
