Tick Bite

Ticks are a type of parasite that bite and bury their heads beneath the skin to suck blood. The reason why ticks are dangerous is that they carry microorganisms which can be transferred into the blood and make your pet even more sick. It is crucial to remove the tick from your pet as soon as possible with simple first aid. Ticks are commonly found around the face, ears, neck and shoulders. Check your pet’s body all over for anything that feels and looks suspicious. If you suspect that a tick has given your pet a disease consult a vet as soon as possible.

Symptoms

Steps
1   Wear disposable gloves and get a pair of blunt-tipped tweezers
2   Use the tweezers, grasp the tick as close to the skin as possible. Gently but firmly pull the entire tick off ensuring you have removed both the head (containing the mouthparts) and the body.
3   Dispose of the tick by flushing it down the toilet or drop it in a bottle of rubbing alcohol
4   Save the tick in a sealed plastic or glass container for identification by your vet in case the tick is poisonous
5   Wash the tick bite area with a soap like Betadine cleanser and water or swab it with a Q-Tip and 3% hydrogen peroxide to remove any remaining tick parts
6   Dab some Neosporin on the bite area
7   Watch your cat, if you notice any limping, bruising, trouble moving, or other signs of illness take your cat to the vet immediately as she could have any number of diseases that are transmitted by ticks.
Warnings
DO NOT use your finger to remove the tick
DO NOT wash it down the sink as it can grasp to the sides and crawl up the pipe
Be aware that some ticks transmit serious diseases to people such as Rocky Mountain Spotted Fever and Lyme Disease
Tips
Don't worry if the ticks head stays buried in the flesh as it will be ejected or absorbed in a few days
