Toe Cyst
Bookmark and Share

Cats who spend a lot of time outdoors or hunting cats may occasionally develop a toe cyst. Toe cysts are painful, infected, and most commonly the result of trauma to the toe regions or an entrapped foreign body such as a grass seed or awn. It is important to seek veterinary attention.

Symptoms

Steps
1   Examine your cat's foot for a splinter or any other foreign object and pull it out with a pair of blunt tipped tweezers.
2   Soak the affected foot in a dilute iodine solution twice a day (3 parts warm water and 1 part iodine) for 1-2 minutes or as long as your pet will allow. You can have your pet stand with the affected foot in a shallow bucket, bath or dish. Or, you may find it easier to put the solution inside a sandwich bag, and squish the solution around your cat’s foot inside the bag for at least 30 seconds twice a day.
3   Rinse and dry her feet thoroughly
4   Follow up again with a rinse and thorough drying
5   Seek veterinary attention as your cat may require pain relief, antibiotics, and possible surgery to remove a foreign body.
Warnings
Make sure to fully rinse and dry her feet as moisture to the feet can attract infection
Tips
It is helpful to soak your cat's feet in the bathtub as you can do all 4 feet at once
The iodine solution should be diluted with water to the color of weak tea
