Children like to put everything in their mouths. Batteries are no exception to the rule. Their small size and shiny look is attractive to any child. . Children are at higher risk of ingesting button batteries than any other due to its closer resemblance to candy. Batteries are a choking hazard, but the main danger is the potential of chemical leakage if ingested. It is essential to have the battery removed before causing further damage.

Steps
1   If the child has fully ingested the battery, do not give anything by mouth and go to the nearest hospital emergency department.
2   DO NOT induce vomiting.
3   Bring a sample of the battery ingested, as every battery contains an imprinted code that can be used to identify manufacturer, the battery's actual size, and its contents. If you can’t find the battery then bring the device from which the battery was removed from.
4   You may also call the National Button Battery Ingestion Hotline at (202) 625-3333 to get battery identification and emergency instructions.
Warnings
DO NOT give medicines like IPECAC which promote vomiting because batteries that have safely made it into the stomach can be forced back into the esophagus and cause damage
Tips
Make sure to bring a sample of the battery with you to the hospital
