Blue-Ringed Octopus Bite

The blue-ringed octopus is the world's most poisonous octopus. They are frequently found in tide pools and attract the attention of children due to their coloration. It is the size of a golf ball but so venomous that it can kill an adult human in minutes. There's is no known antidote. First aid however can help to minimize the spread of the poison until you can reach emergency medical help.

Symptoms

Steps
1   Apply pressure to the bite or sting by placing a gauze pad or cloth directly over the wound and use a bandage to hold it in place.
2   The pressure should be firm enough to press the pad into the skin but not tight enough to block circulation.
3   The pressure pack should be released within 8 hours, or as soon as a medical center is reached.
4   If the person is having difficulty breathing, assist with CPR.
Warnings
Seek medical treatment as soon as possible
The Blue-Ringed Octopus is HIGHLY poisonous to humans and is often fatal
It can cause blindness in seconds
Within 3 min paralysis sets in and your body goes into respiratory arrest
Tips
Be prepared to give mouth to mouth resuscitation as the person may have difficulty breathing
Poison will gradually wear off after 24 hours usually leaving no side effects if treated
