Chemical Eye Burn

When coming in contact with the eye chemicals can have detrimental effects. It is essential to wash out the chemicals from your eye as quick as possible as prolonged exposure can lead to blindness.

Symptoms

Steps
1   Remove the person from the area of exposure and call poison control immediately.
2   Flush the eye with emergency eye bath, or clean lukewarm water for 20 to 30 minutes or if both eyes are affected, flush them in the shower.
3   You may also put your head down and turn it to the side and hold your affected eye open under a gently running faucet.
4   Check the chemical safety sheet, or look on the product's container for an emergency number to call for first aid instructions.
5   Wash your hands with soap and water to make sure all the chemicals are removed
6   Call for emergency medical help if needed
Warnings
Make sure you flush eye for at least 20 minutes
DO NOT rub the eye
DO NOT use anything other than water or saline in your eyes
Tips
Remove contact lenses if they didn't come out during flushing of the eye
Remember to take the container of chemical with you so the emergency medical personnel can identify the chemicals and treatment
