Cone Shell Stings

Cone shell attacks on man are exclusively defensive. They have teeth like small harpoons and can penetrate clothing. Cone snails live mostly in mud, sand flats, shallow reef waters where low and high tides alternate. Their toxin can result in the death of a human so it is essential to treat the person with first and get emergency medical help immediately.

Symptoms

Steps
1   Call 911 or take the person to the nearest Emergency Room Immediately
2   While transporting the person soak the wound in hot water for at least 30 minutes
3   Immobilize the injury and apply a compression bandage and keep it on until help arrives
Warnings
If untreated, high levels of venom could cause death in a short time
