Bookmark and Share

These are common conditions where there is an area of thickened skin usually found on the weight-bearing portion of the hands and feet. They are a normal and natural way for the body to protect itself. They are painful as pressure is exerted on sensitive nerves in the surrounding skin which may become red and inflamed.

Symptoms

Steps
1   Place a protective covering or bandage over the sore to decrease friction on the skin until the sore heals.
2   Apply a moisturizing agent such as lotions to dry calluses and corns
3   Rub a sandpaper disk or pumice stone over hard thickened regions
4   Avoid stress to hands or feet by using gloves or changing shoes or socks
5   Soak feet or hands in warm soapy water to soften corns and calluses
Warnings
If a corn or callus persists or becomes painful seek medical attention
Tips
Avoiding the repetitive actions that caused the corn to develop and wearing properly fitting shoes, and using protective pads can help resolve them
