Dislocated Elbow
Bookmark and Share

A dislocation occurs when extreme force is put on a ligament, allowing the ends of two connected bones to separate. It is crucial to have it checked out by a medical professional to rule out potential fractures in the elbow. This type of injury is more common in children due to laxity of their ligaments, as well as trauma such as falls.

Symptoms

Steps
1   Immediately get the person to lay down rest
2   Place padding and cushions or towels around the elbow for comfort and support
3   Transport the person to the nearest ER or call 911 or local emergency services.
4   Put ice on the elbow for 15 min on and 15 min off
5   Support the arm in a shoulder sling (this is in majority of cases).
6   Give the person a blanket or coat to keep them warm.
7   DO NOT correct any deformity in the limb.
8   For pain relief provide acetaminophen
Warnings
DO NOT put padding directly on the injured elbow

DO NOT apply bandages if help is on its way
DO NOT realign the elbow, let the doctor do it
