Bookmark and Share

A dislocation occurs when extreme force is put on a ligament, allowing the ends of two connected bones to separate. It is crucial to have it checked out by a medical professional. A dislocated shoulder generally occurs after a fall or sport related injury, however, it can also occur after a seizure. There is limited range of movement and the person may hold their arm at the side, usually slightly away from the body with the forearm turned outward.

Symptoms

Steps
1   Seek emergency medical treatment immediately
2   Immobilize the arm using a cuff and collar sling.
3   Tie the end of a bandage around the person’s wrist and secure it close to the opposite shoulder across their chest. Secure an additional bandage across the injured arm close to their chest.
4   Take some acetaminophen or ibuprofen to reduce pain.
Warnings
This injury requires professional attention immediately
DO NOT attempt to relocate the shoulder by yourself as you can cause further damage
Make sure the person is not allergic to acetaminophen or ibuprofen
