A potential injury while fishing is getting the fishhook lodged in your skin. Removal is usually fairly simple, however, if it is caught in a sensitive area (e.g. eyelids or lips) seek medical attention as soon as possible.

Symptoms

Steps
1   Reassure the person and have them sit down.
2   Cut the fishing line as close as possible to the end of the hook.
3   If you can’t see the barb of the hook push it further into the skin until it pokes out.
4   Cut the barb off with wire cutters
5   Remove the hook by its eye (the part where there is the hole to loop the fishing line through)
6   Clean the wound and apply a sterile dressing and bandage.
7   If you are unable to remove the fishhook, place pads of gauze around the embedded fishhook until the hook is completely covered and then cover with a bandage and seek medical attention.
8   If your tetanus immunizations was more than 5 years ago or you are unsure of your immunization status, see your doctor within 48 hours of the injury for a booster.
Warnings
