A bone fracture is a medical condition in which there is a break in the continuity of the bone. They are usually the result of high force trauma or stress to the bone such as in injuries sustained in motor vehicle accidents. A fractured hip can also occur in seemingly low impact situations like falling from standing, this may indicate an underlying osteoporosis, or bone disease A fractured hip presents very similarly to a dislocated hip, but has a poorer prognosis if treatment is delayed.

Symptoms

Steps
1   DO NOT move the person unless removing them from danger.
2   DO NOT manipulate the affected limb as this will cause immense pain.
3   Reassure and keep the person calm and call 911.
4   Control any bleeding by applying firm, direct pressure on the wound.
5   DO NOT move the person and wait for help to arrive. Monitor for shock, and stay with the person.
Warnings
This injury requires professional attention immediately
DO NOT allow the person to eat, drink, or smoke
DO NOT raise the person’s legs even if they are in shock
Tips
This injury is common for the elderly especially women with osteoporosis
