Gastroenteritis is a condition that causes irritation and inflammation of the stomach and intestines. Viruses, bacteria, parasites, and food borne illnesses can cause gastroenteritis.

Symptoms

Steps
1   Allow child to rest.
2   After vomiting stops provide fluids such as Pedialyte or a very dilute sports drink like Gatorade (4:1 with water) to prevent dehydration.
3   After the first 24 hours gradually provide bland, easy-to-digest foods, such as toast, rice, bananas and potatoes
4   If you have a sick infant, let your baby's stomach rest for 30 - 60 minutes, then offer small amounts of liquid.
5   If you're breast-feeding, let your baby nurse. If your baby is bottle-fed, offer a small amount of Pedialyte or regular formula.
6   Don't go to Emergency Room, instead call your primary care doctor for further instructions.
