Hives are a kind of skin rash notable for dark red, raised, itchy bumps. Hives are frequently caused by allergic reactions; however, there are many non-allergic causes. Most cases of hives that have an allergic origin last for less than 6 weeks. Chronic hives that last for more than 6 weeks are not caused by allergies and may be caused by viruses, stress, or even temperature change.

Symptoms

Steps
1   Remove the person from the source of the reaction. Stop taking any food or medicine identified as the cause of the hives.
2   If it is a severe reaction and you have trouble breathing go to the nearest emergency medical center or call 911.
3   If symptoms are making you uncomfortable, take a nonprescription antihistamine, such as Benadryl until symptoms subside.
4   Apply a cool compresses or cool bath to help with the discomfort.
5   Wear light, loose-fitting clothing.
6   Try to relax and reduce stress.
7   Seek medical attention if hives persist or symptoms become worse.

DO NOT take any hot baths or showers
Avoid any direct sunlight
Avoid any strenuous activity that might cause sweating
