Knocked Out Tooth
Bookmark and Share

Teeth can get knocked out from a trauma or even chewing on a hard object. This is especially so if they are already vulnerable due to tooth or gum disease. It can be very painful if the root is exposed. Replace the tooth as soon as possible and see your dentist. This may prevent the permanent loss of the tooth.

Symptoms

Steps
1   Find the knocked-out permanent tooth and call a dentist or doctor or go to your local emergency room immediately.
2   Gently rinse the tooth immediately with saline solution or milk.
3   Keep the tooth from drying out until you see the dentist by storing the tooth in milk (not water), or replacing the tooth into the socket if possible.
4   Proceed to your dentist or your local emergency room right away.
Warnings
DO NOT use tap water because it contains chlorine which may damage the root, it's better to simply replace the tooth into the socket if it is safe to do so.
DO NOT scrub the tooth
Handle the tooth only by its crown (the top part) and never by the root
Tips
If possible try to replace the tooth in the socket after rinsing
