Bookmark and Share

Cramp is a term often used to refer to a painful, involuntary contraction of a single muscle or a muscle group. Cramps are caused by overexertion of the muscles; temporary reduction of oxygen to the muscle, inappropriate leg positions while sitting or dehydration. Make sure to drink plenty of water and stretch every day to prevent cramping, especially if engaging in strenuous activities.

Symptoms

Steps
1   Have the person stretch out the affected muscle to counteract the cramp
2   Make sure to drink plenty of clear liquids such as water or tea to make sure you are not dehydrated.
3   Massage the cramped muscle firmly but gently
4   Apply heat using a heating pad or hot water bottle wrapped in a cloth
5   Get medical help if cramps persist
Warnings
DO NOT apply heat directly to the skin instead wrap it in a cloth

Try to use moist heat instead of dry heat
Try to eat more foods with potassium and calcium
