Muscle strain or muscle pull is an injury to a muscle or tendon in which the muscle fibers tear as a result of overstretching. It is usually due to a sudden motion like quick heavy lifting or sports. The equivalent injury to a ligament is a sprain.

Symptoms

Steps
1   Rest the affected area.
2   Apply a cold compress in an interval of 30 minutes on and then 30 minutes off to decrease swelling for the first 24 hours.
3   Use a compression (ACE) bandage to support the muscle. This aids in reducing swelling.
Warnings
DO NOT apply ice directly without wrapping it in a towel
Tips
If pain and swelling persists seek medical attention
