Poisoning Inhalation

Inhaled poisoning occurs when a harmful substance is drawn in through breathing. Common inhaled poisons include carbon monoxide from smoke or engine exhaust, natural gas, solvent fumes, and chemical vapors.

Symptoms

Steps
1   Act quickly. The effect may worsen with time. Safely move person to fresh air immediately.
2   Activate EMS without delay if person is displaying any serious signs or symptoms.
3   Call the U.S. National Poison Hotline at (800) 222-1222 for additional directions on care.
Warnings
Be safe! Make sure repeated injury does not occur.

Poison control centers can quickly provide information regarding the immediate treatment of poisonings regardless of the route or substance. You can help a poison center by identifying the substance and providing details about the incident.
