Scorpionfish Sting

The fins of these prickly fish carry poisonous venom. A scorpion fish sting causes intense pain and swelling at the site of the sting. Swelling can spread to affect an entire arm or leg within minutes.

Symptoms

Steps
1   Get out of the water immediately, reassure and keep the person calm.
2   Rinse the wound with clean water
3   Immerse the wound in hot but non-scalding water (110 to 113° F) for 30 to 90 minutes.
4   The patient should be made to lie down and the injured foot (or other body-part) should be elevated above the rest of the body.
5   The leg should be propped up and the knee bent so that the foot is immersed in a bowl of hot water which is supported at a level above that of the bed, ground or bench upon which the victim is lying.
6   Rinse the wound with clean water.
7   Apply compression and monitor level of consciousness, breathing and circulation. Perform CPR if required.
8   Seek medical attention.
