Splinters are foreign objects that are partially or fully embedded in the skin. They are usually made of wood, metal, glass, and even plastic.

Symptoms

Steps
1   Rinse your hands with soap and water
2   Get a clean pair of tweezers and grasp the splinter
3   Carefully pull out the splinter in the same angle that the splinter went in
4   If the splinter is embedded in the skin, clean a needle with alcohol and make a small hole in the skin over the end of the splinter.
5   Lift the splinter with the tip of the needle until it can be grasped with the tweezers and pulled out.
6   After removing the splinter clean the wound and watch for signs of infection
Warnings
DO NOT touch the wound
DO NOT wet or soak the splinter because it will be harder to remove
If a splinter appears deeply embedded or you have only been able to remove a piece of it, the wound should be seen by a healthcare professional.
Tips
You may sterilize a pair of tweezers by holding the end of them in a flame of a match or lighter and wait for them to cool down before removing the splinter
