Stonefish sting a person with venom-delivering spines. It is a good idea to be aware of the common cause and effects of a sting and the appropriate first aid and treatment.

Steps
1   Get out of the water immediately. Reassure and keep the person calm.
2   Call the poison control hotline at (800) 222-1222 for advice.
3   Rinse the wound with clean water
4   Immerse the wound in hot but non-scalding water (110 to 113° F) for 30 to 90 minutes.
5   Rinse the wound with clean water and apply a compression bandage on the wound.
6   Monitor the person’s level of consciousness, breathing and circulation. Perform CPR if required.
7   Seek medical attention.
